A Day in the Life of Gabrielle Marlena: “Good Songs For You” Songstress and General Ray of Sunshine

Meet Gabrielle Marlena, a 23 year old Connecticut-born, Brooklyn-based indie-folk singer-songwriter. She leaves October 8th, 2017 for a two month, country-wide tour promoting her new album, Good Music For You.

Gabrielle’s break-up inspired album was released August 11th, 2017. This box of physical CDs resides in her East Williamsburg apartment, waiting to be packed up and sold on her 22 date (and counting) cross country tour.

On October 2nd, 2017, a day after a concert in Jersey City with Sofar Music, Gabrielle requires both coffee and lots of water. She patiently awaits a ride to King Killer Studios recording studio in the Gowanus neighbourhood of Brooklyn, NY.

Gabrielle doesn’t travel lightly – her prized guitar takes up almost a whole seat on the subway. A wall in her apartment boasts a collection of vintage guitars, but only this one gets actual playtime.

Dressed in her mom’s hand-me-downs, Gabrielle sets up for a video recording session with producer Dave Bunting at King Killer Studios. The video is for her most popular song, Rescue You, and features a violin accompaniment.

Gabrielle high-fives her violin accompanist, Sarah Meyer, 27, upon completing the first take of the video. Dave Bunting adjusts the camera and offers guidance.

After five takes of the performance, from all different angles, Gabrielle could use a little vocal rest. She is used to this sort of thing, however, as she is no stranger to performing in music videos.

Happy to be back outdoors on such a beautiful October day, Gabrielle and Sarah are all smiles outside the studio. Sarah, also a Brooklyn-based artist, teaches music to children as her day job, but hopes to do more musical recording like this in the near future.

After a long day of music, exhaustion kicks in and the two artists eagerly board the W train home. Much packing will be done when Gabrielle arrives, as her tour leaves in less than a week.
